Throw a Bone

coyote
tracking
up my trail
and I know he's not alone
when you've got a skeleton to spare
does no good to throw a bone
I hear that invocation
in the laughter and the drone
(and the groan has grown)
we all get eaten eventually
but a lot less of us alive
in a restaurant
six feet under
(what a dive)
you can drive off
the cliff of civilization
take your time with
the venom and teeth
you can be the lover
once most wanted
the stalemate
of fresh meat
I've got no quandary
in confessing I'm a sheep
(and when I'm gone)
you can buy me
by the
bleat
