Follow Along
On the roads running further from home, there are still spaces less familiar. The hills and hollows of Gaspereau Mountain slip silent to a wilderness I’ve only seen in part. Civilization exists exactly to the edge, as I watch the pavement end to discover nature taking claim. Up in the depths of Allison Coldwell Road is a place like that. Tinker Brook hasn’t got much current, but the rhythm of a consistent cascade is compelling. Running right under the road, don’t you know a bit of beauty when you see it? It’s somewhere simple like this that always makes me pull over and follow along a while. The sound of running water is sleepy and soulful, like a lullaby with your head already on the pillow. It’s a kind of calm I can always use when I’m still wide awake.
